Graduation by Elena Bryce MD
Her preschool graduation, and I’m here!
(Post-call, in rumpled clothes, with greasy hair)
The other mothers hug and pose and cheer
In corals, florals, laughing, light as air
My kid begins to tear around the room
A cyclone in a hall of temperate skies
Were seeds of difference planted in the womb
By my own difference, that here feels outsize?
My fourth year baby, borne on L&D
Were all these letters written on the wall?
ADHD and HF-ASD
Inscribed by cortisol and Tylenol?
Yet in that womb there grew her fierce brave heart
We dance to our own beat, as one, apart
